"M" is for Mystery is the Bay Area's largest and most complete mystery specialty bookstore. We first opened our doors in late 1996 at 74 East Third Avenue, in the heart of the downtown walking district of San Mateo, just 15 minutes south of the San Francisco International Airport. On April 24, 2002, we moved -- just four doors down the block -- to our new store at 86 East Third. Our newly renovated store has an ample 1,700 square feet of sales floor, and an additional 500 square feet at the rear are occupied by staff work stations and the shipping/receiving department.

| A look inside our store |
We offer a large selection of new mystery, crime and detective fiction, as well as bestsellers, used books, first editions and other collectibles. In addition, there are various genre-related gift items, and books-on-tape. We give store credit for used paperbacks, and we buy estates and collections. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:30 to 6:00, Sunday from 11:00 to 4:00, and evenings until approximately 9:00 PM when an author is scheduled to appear at 7:00 PM.

"M" is for Mystery features an active schedule of author readings and signings, averaging over 150 such events per year. In our new, larger quarters, the bookshelves in the center aisle are on casters, for easy whisking-away at event time, when we set up seating for up to 100 people. We also sponsor a monthly reading group. The "M" is for Mystery Book Club generally meets in the store the last Tuesday of every month at 7 pm. Reading group titles are available at a 10% discount. Call 650-401-8077 for more information, or email us at info@MforMystery.com.

The "Book-by-the-Month" gift program is meant to be the answer to the question "What's a great birthday or holiday gift for that special book-lover in your life?" "M" is for Mystery is located at 86 East Third Avenue in San Mateo, California. We're just minutes from the San Francisco International Airport, and about 25 minutes from downtown San Francisco. San Mateo is surrounded by Hillsborough and Burlingame, and is convenient to Palo Alto and Menlo Park. We are the only complete mystery bookstore south of San Francisco.
From the 101 Freeway, take the Third Avenue Exit (San Mateo), and go west 10 blocks.
From the 280 Freeway, take Highway 92 east and exit at El Camino Real North. Proceed north on El Camino to Third Avenue and turn right.
From the East Bay on Highway 92, exit at El Camino Real North. Proceed north on El Camino to Third Avenue and turn right.
We are on Third Avenue between San Mateo Drive and El Camino Real on the south side of the street.
